My Top 5 Movies Based on Video Games

When it comes to ranking stuff I normally need to have a good few hours thinking about it. With top 5 movies based on video games though, I was just asked and knew almost instantly what my top 5 are and in what order they where in. So here's my top 5.

5. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,

This movie would have been number one. I mean Jake Gyllenhaal is absolutely perfect as the prince, the parkour scenes are flawless and I've yet to watch something with either Gemma Arterton or Ben Kingsley that I haven't liked. Alas it is only fifth thanks to the decision of replacing the cool zombie dudes with -still cool but not cool enough- ninja types. Other than this the movie is great and keeps true to the game most of the time. They also raised the bar for video game movies with this.

4. Resident Evil,

They succeeded in mimicking the first game with the first Resident Evil movie. The survival part wasn't there but it did look fantastic. I was in awe the first time you see the licker. Milla Jovovich is always awesome and this movie introduced me to one of my favourite actresses: Michelle Rodriguez.

3. Silent Hill,

They main reason this is higher than Resident Evil is thanks to me enjoying the games more. I don't care that they didn't have much of a story in this, I loved seeing the hell version on the big screen and the atmosphere of the games was captured perfectly. I also had a bit of a nerd boner when the Pyramid Head showed up. They also got the nurses perfect.
...Oh and Sean Bean doesn't die for a change!

2. Hitman,

I know not a lot of people would include this in their list but I loved this movie almost as much as I loved the games. I am a massive fan of these games and was extremely excited when I heard this movie was coming out. Timothy Olyphant was fantastic as Agent 47. I had to restrain myself from clapping during the scene where 47 killed the guy in the toilet. The bit where he walked down the hall looked exactly like the game, he even had the walk perfect. Even though there was no need for her, I loved Olga Kurylenko in this she looked fantastic and made a great sidekick.

1. Doom,

This movie deviates from the game too much and I think that's why people don't like it as much. The movie is similar to Ghosts of Mars where in the games the scientists accidentally open a portal to actual Hell. This is one of my favourite movies never mind one of my favourite video game movies. I personally think they done amazingly at making a limited story into a movie. Karl Urban and Dwayne Johnson are awesome in this as straight up soldiers too and some of the one liners are equal to the action movies of the 80s. The first person view is one awesome bit of film, it really looks like Doom 3.
